Spring · 春
蘭
Orchid
Grace. She blooms where no one is looking and perfumes the valley anyway. A beauty that never asks to be seen.
Sumi‑e · the studio of living ink
Ink, alive. Move through the pool and the pigment answers — it curls, bleeds, and settles the way sumi settles into washi. Nothing here is a picture. Everything is water.
drag to draw · shift‑click for vermillion · the pool forgets slowly
筆おろす水面にひらく墨の花
the brush descends — on still water, a flower of ink
Four subjects, four seasons, one lifetime of practice. In sumi‑e a painter does not draw the orchid — she becomes patient enough for the orchid to appear. Each stroke is a virtue. Each virtue is a stroke.

Summer · 夏
竹
Integrity. Hollow at the heart, upright in the storm. It bends the whole way to the ground and refuses to break.
Autumn · 秋
菊
Endurance. When the garden surrenders to frost, she opens. Persistence, it turns out, is a kind of flowering.
Winter · 冬
梅
Hope. The first blossom pushes through late snow, vermillion against white. Optimism, practiced annually.
The brush touches paper once. Everything before is preparation. Everything after is acceptance.
