Mount Sereva

61°09′14″ N · 143°18′40″ W

The traverse began where the glacier loses its patience — a shoulder of blue ice tilting into gold. Sereva does not announce itself; it simply continues upward until the eye gives out. The rope ran quiet between us, and far below, the icefall breathed its slow white breath.

The Candra Spires

61°14′52″ N · 143°06′05″ W

Granite teeth, sixty million years in the cutting. The wind here has a grammar of its own — it speaks in gusts and half-sentences, and we learned to answer with our weight. For three hours we moved along the crest, and the light never once stopped being gold.

Col of Whispers

61°19′33″ N · 142°57′48″ W

At the saddle the sun touched the horizon and the whole range turned to embers. Every shadow ran a kilometre long. We stopped — not from tiredness, but because certain views levy a toll, and the only currency they accept is stillness.

Nyx Crown

61°24′07″ N · 142°49′12″ W

The last blue drained from the ridgeline and the stars arrived all at once, the way they only do above five thousand metres. Nyx Crown stood black against the field of them. We made camp on the wind-scoured shelf and did not speak. There was nothing the sky had left unsaid.
